Yes, however give us the option to have freedom in our CS creation with the class theme in mind
No, let us just create our own CS without any theme/class to it

Well, fan-fiction is so filled with so many self-inserts (including the eponymous 'mary sue'), that that's kind of a bad example, but, even using fanfiction, you know the characters beforehand, you've seen them interact. Any good fanfiction writer has spent hours studying the characters. There's only so much you can learn in a character sheet.
Spoiler: Things I like
Cf if you believe that then that's your own thing, however as a DM I can say that in my personal experience your statement is false, the whole point of the character sheet is to give you a insight into the character in order to let you play it properly, for the DM it gives us an idea of how to treat the character in game and what chalanges will make it a fun game. as a player your character sheet helps you not only keep track of your character but also how you play it, it gives you a hint of the personality you intended and lets you develop something that is alive from the static text of the sheet.

Strength before weakness,
Journey before destination."
-The First Ideal
You get several battles with the characters though.
And I read a lot of fanfiction, so I can say it's not all self-insert mary sue-ish crap. There's a lot of great works that I think rival most published novels.

*avoiding argument over the quality of fanfiction*
In any case, upon succeeding to future rounds will we be given the option to upgrade our character? Like, give them a new special ability, or perhaps a new weapon or something?
I remember in the last Rumble the characters got new powers.
Not in this rumble.
In this everything will be known in advance and what you write in the CS is what you get.
I may consider it as option for next time.
You know the voice oddly absent from this....wheres ~N~? I always felt this was his baby as much as Kris's
In response to this entire thread:
The original question:
I think you should either make the entire character sheet, or have no you must pick from a pre-made classe. Obviously, we are not doing the first, so then we should go with the second.
This is why:
For character creation, you likely are going to fall into one of the classes, but making sure a person picks from them is limiting. It is hard enough to make a CS in the first place. Besides, during the character creation process, you may decide that a different class would suit your person better, but you would be unable to change, because someone already took that class or something. However, having a list as a suggestion, especially for new participants, sounds like a good idea.
To everything else:
The judging system, as it is, helps balance out the uneven character power levels. People make what they want, but if their highly power character goes against a less powerful character, but the other writer makes up for power with writing abilities or creativity, either could win. I mean, it's a third of each. If the rumble was about killing another, then obviously the higher power character character has all the odds favoring him. But the rumble is more about telling a story that [almost all of the time] involves two people fighting each other. Hence, I think the system works the way it is.
