Ok, this is where I may put and possibly try to organize any ideas I get from, Rps, to stories, to world building, to characters, to races. May even put a few picks I draw to go with the above with them. However for now, Its' late. So I'm going to head to bed and start putting all that stuff in, in the morning
Spoiler: animals/fauna for a yet unnamed world/storycurrently IncompleteSpoiler: insects
- Armor ant: Given the name, for the fact that it's harder than usual exoskeleton. Makes it harder to kill than most ants, some parts of the colony can even be stomped on and still walk away without a scratch. To most people's relief, most colonies tend to be fairly docile and tend to be more of a nuisance than a threat. Some people actually gather a few of these ants or a whole colony, to have as their children’s first pet. Since these guys are less likely to bite than most things.
- Black Monarch: a large black and indigo butterfly, that has a spotted body much like the the orange and black butterfly that everyone thinks of when you say Monarch. They may not be as brightly colored as the other milkweed butterflies, but they are just as deadly poisonous. Highly valued by collectors for their rarity. No one is quite sure what makes them so rare or if they exist in large numbers in only a few places.
- Cliff Lubber: these high jumpers, in a lot of ways are just as colorful as rainbow hoppers, though these guys are easily 3-4 times as large as a rainbow grasshopper. Males have much larger wings than females. They were named such because, they were first only seen/found around areas that had cliffs and even now they are only found in mountainous or cliff areas.
- Desert cicadas: Normally, you would never find a water and green loving cicada out in the middle of something like a desert. Yet, there is one species that manages to survive in a desert. They live deep, deep underground and often become snacks for some of the only slightly larger inhabitants of the desert. They only come out after the deserts flooding rains and hibernate in specialized sacks until the air is humid enough for them.
- Lunar moth: This light colored and sometimes iridescent is often seen dancing under the moonlight. It is rare to see them in a color darker, than the palest of greens. Some Lunar moths have been known to be come so light they look white.
- Masked Caterpillar: This caterpillar turns into a rather plain black and white butterfly. However, when it is in this stage of life. This little green caterpillar almost looks like it is getting ready for a masquerade party. It is a fairly common bug in the springtime. Even so, some small villages gather the caterpillars and release them in mass numbers when they are butterflies. Believing the larger the number of butterflies they see fly into the horizon, the more luck their village will have.
- Rainbow Grasshopper: Farmers and ranchers don’t mind having these guys around, especially ones ones that are trying to improve the land that they are on. These tiny colorful hoppers, are kind of picky eaters and don’t aren’t really known for eating a farmer crops. Farmer like to keep them around, because not only are they a sign that the soil is still quite good and if in a good number, can catch any of the weeds that they miss. While, ranchers like when these bugs show up, because it often means they are doing their job right.
- Speckled wasp: This interesting wasp, tends to be found in savannas and deciduous forests. They are a rare ground dwelling wasp, the females are often wingless or have undersized wings and are not capable of flight.
- Sunrise moth: most moths are night-dweller, this one is only out for a couple hours a day. It comes out about an half an hour before dawn and dusk, going to bed or disappearing half an hour after. They are often brightly colored, lending even more to their name
- Sunset butterfly: This unique butterfly, often lives side by side with the sunrise moth. They have similar feeding times though they appear to have completely different preferences as to what they like to eat. Currently research is going on to see why these insects are often found together and how they impact the land when together and when apart.
Spoiler: Land invertabrates
- Arom Snail: a rare, almost mythically so, snail. It was named for the glistening golden shell it has. Which is actually part of the reason why they are so rare, since ancient times, people have believed that this snail in one way or fashion could cure any kind of disease or sickness. Even with the country as a whole, trying to get more of their nature back, to many people are tempted by the possibility that taking a Arom concoction when not sick, might prevent them from ever getting sick. A few do keep a small illegal farm of these guys, to make trinkets from their pretty shells.
- Cave worm: These odd creatures live in cave with large bat colonies, living off their droppings. They aren’t actually worms, but are (incomplete, give me a bit of time)
- Farm tarantula: A larger than normal Tarantula species, most farmers are switching from having cats as ratters, to having a number Farm Tarantulas scattered around the farm. They do just as good a job as the cats and have even been known to take down some snakes that can scare cattle and livestock, but this is kinda a mute point. Since the spiders want to live and tend to not too close to the larger animals, if they can help it. Just remember, tarantulas’ can still be eaten by some semi-small carnivores if they have already shot their barbed hairs.
- Fire legged millipede: these large forest dwelling millipedes, have dark bodies that blend well into the the leaf litter and ground of the land. What doesn’t blend well, is their bright red-orange legs. At first nobody understood stood why these creature survived, having such bright legs that would normally give them away in an instant. Until, they realized, for a distance the legs almost looked like two small lines of ants and wonders if it tricks birds. That would eat them, but have no interest in such a small meal, into thinking they weren’t worth trying to catch. By pretending to be ants? It is still unclear, but survive, this creature does.
- Forest scorpion: While most scorpions are known to live in arid or semi-arid areas that at times means desert or desert like areas. This scorpion is known to live in forests that get a lot of rain and find butterflies quite yummy. It is unknown how they manage to survive the snowy winters of the forests it decides to call home, it is known however. That it can be quite a fighter, as smaller omnivores are always trying to find ways around its’ swift tail.
- Shadow Centipede: This is another oddity among centipede species, they are commonly dark greys, super dark blues, and blacks, with sometimes maybe a little bit of white or yellow mixed in. These guys usually are found dense canopies that seem to get less than normal shade, but still fairly regular rains. They are can sometimes be found skittering across the forest floors, but thankfully unlike the swamp centipede. These guys aren’t likely to bite you, unless you try to pick them up or step on them
- Starlight Snail: This snail was named less for its color, through the slimy body is quite dark. They were named more for the strange shape of their spiky shell, which some believe to actually be lucky. In the areas that they are common, their shells can often be found as parts of necklace or part of luck bags and tourist items. Despite this, the snails’ number never seem to decrease, because of it. The only time their number seems to take any kind of hit, is when part of their favorite mossy snack disappears for a few years.
- Swamp centipede: The normally brightly colored centipede is surprisingly, not shown in this species. Instead it seems to be colored closer to a millipede than a centipede, even its’ large mandibles. Often simply be colored dull, browns and greys, despite this strange color choice on their part. Do not be tricked into thinking that they are any less dangerous, than other centipede species. Quite the opposite, they should be considered more dangerous, because while it is usually hard to see a centipede coming. Even with their bright colors, here they are nearly impossible to see coming and a bite from them can cause dizziness, nausea, elevated blood pressure, local tissue damage, and blisters around where bite site. They are slightly more aggressive than a number of other centipede species as well.
- Vinegaroon: This is a scorpion, but not in the sense that you would normally think of one. Vinegaroons don’t have stingers, another name for them are whip scorpions. Due to the fact that they have a long thin tail, it is very delicate and has been known to break off. They can spray a weak acid that smells alot like vinegar, which is where their names came from. WARNING: Do not panic when you see them, they look scarier than they are! They eat some pretty nasty spiders!
- Weeping spider: While this spider has not known to cry itself, it is primarily found in weeping willow trees. Normally these spiders can be hard to spot, because of their ability to blend into the bark and branches so well. The best time to see weeping spiders though are right after a good rain storm. When all of them in a tree can be spotted, making webs, seemingly to catch the water droplets from the still wet tree. It is unknown why they do this or for what purpose they use the water for.
Spoiler: Amphibians
- Banded caecilian: they tend to live underground, burrowing through loose soil and ground litter with their long. They resemble a worm, but are in fact an amphibian and the only one to have tentacles on their face to help them find prey and know their environment. Don’t be surprised if you never see one.
- Clawed salamander: These strange salamanders can actually climb, not as well as some lizards mind you, but certainly better than most other salamanders. This is all thanks to their oddly sharp claws, it is like the claws that you would normally find on some types of lizards. Not what you would usually find on a salamander.
- Claybender: You will only find these guys in soil that is mostly made from clay. They have been known to have massive tunnel systems, with each generation adding more to it. They rarely go above ground, the thick compact soil they live in often holding in more moisture than they would find above ground. This fact also means that their usual food comes to them, looking for a place to cool off.
- Desert frog: These guys are not even smaller, being less than an inch big, than the Oasis toast, but they never leave their pools of water. No one is quite sure how these tiny subterranean frogs, find their small caves or holes filled with water. Considering sometimes, the smallest distance between them would be hundreds of miles. They never seem to leave their tiny pools and feed off the grub and larva of bugs that find the pools and lays eggs there.
- Dragon salamander: This large Salamander, has a pattern that often tricks people into thinking that they have scales instead of the usual weirdness, that is Salamander skin. They got their names because, some of the ancestors, thought these guys were descended from dragons, had been dragons in a previous life, or were actually dragons that have had a curse put on them.
Dragon Salamanders are quite long lived and never stop growing during their life. It is said that if you eat a Dragons’ tail that you will give you a strange power and now people are starting to wonder if that is because. There is a chemical, these creatures excrete when in distress, that acts as a hallucinogen.- Flame salamander: These guys have a very simple reason to their name, these tiny amphibians have a bad habit of hiding in wet wood. They would run out when the fire heated the logs, making them appear as if they were coming out of the fire themselves. It didn’t help that each Flame salamander would have a red markings of some kind. Making people of old, think that they could catch fire themselves.
- Holy water newts: These guys live only in the cleanest waters to be found and have been known to somehow find their way into churches and thrives in their pools of holy water. Which of course, is how they get their name. These small things aren’t always welcomed, but by the church goers.
- Oasis toad: These unique amphibians are a desert dweller, well sort of. If you are in a desert and happen to see these warty little guys are. Then chances are you are near a water source, most likely an above ground oasis. These guys don’t stray more than a day's walk from their main source of water and food. These guys have been called a thirsty man's best friend.
Though they may be a little hard to spot at first, they are smaller than an average persons’ palm. (Approximately two inches wide for a norm?)- Snowflake toad: This pale frog only lives in high mountains and cold places. Legends say, if you see a Snowflake toad and follow it, you will be able to find the closest body of water. It maybe frozen though, it isn’t exceptionally uncommon for large groups of them to be found in or around hot spring areas. Constantly switching between the hot water and cold snow, trying to find a balance that is just right for their body. When things get too cold even for them though, the dig deep underground and hibernate. Their special blood keeping them alive and not freezing.
- Yellow footed salamander: This dark salamander has surprisingly bright feet, they are small and tend to live in rainforests, under the damp leaves. They can’t afford to get to dry and so also can be found in or near rivers during the rainforests’ dry season.
Spoiler: Reptiles
- Blue throated sand runner: Similar to a collared lizard and tends to live in a similar environment.(I will be adding more to this, was just lazy on that one)
- Brown prairie Anol: these guys live in shortgrass prairies, living off the abundance of hoppers there are year round. He is a mixed of different brown colors, making him look like a mix of dead grass and shadows.
- Green leather head turtles: A type of sea turtle, they have thicker, tougher skin than the normal Green sea turtle. Some of the older males even start to develop a small brown “helmet” on their head.
- Leaf gecko: This gecko, not only is the exact color of the as the tree he lives in, but his tail is the color of the leaves and even resembles the shape of the leaves. Providing great camouflage for the little guys.
- Mace rattlesnake: These guys are similar to rattlesnakes, to the point that their takes actually rattle. Once big difference between them and rattlesnakes though, is that their tail starts to take the form of a mace as they age. It is still unknown, whether this is just an act of intimidation or whether the mace/club-like tail could actually be used to cause some damage to potential predators.
- ornate checkered tortoise: These guys have beautiful shells, they used to be killed so that the richest of the rich, could change their shells into game boards. This practice has since been banned, so their numbers have been on the raise and some botanical gardens let them wander around and live in them.
- Swift monitor: Monitors all have poisonous bite and a nasty bite to match, most monitors can’t run though. Something this terrifying lizard can do, just be glad it can’t run first. Though, you better pray that you see them, before they see you.
- Water forest gator: Unlike rain-forests, Water forests, don’t tend to be thriving ecosystems. They usually come about from when major flooding happens and the forest is covered in water and never seems to completely dry out. These Gators seem to be the first to appear in new first Water forests.
They don’t grow as large as some other other Alligator species, normally only between 6-8 feet. They are also darker than the typical alligator, certainly not the prettiest thing to look at, but it camouflages them quite well.
Spoiler: FishNext will work on/add Salt waterSpoiler: freshwater
- Jeweled fish: These are a group of fish, that for whatever reason that have scales that resembles a jewel of some kind. They aren’t very big, they aren’t very tough, all they can do is try to hide, but even that they don’t tend to do well. Due to how bright their colors are, it isn’t really known how these fish manage to keep surviving. It is assumed that they are often very lucky.
In fact because of this belief, there are those that will keep a tank of Jeweled fish. Just as a way to have an extra shot of luck on their side. Though, some fancy restaurants like to keep tanks of them, because these “underwater treasures” are often stared at and admired for their beauty.
(Has a number of subspecies depending on water it is in)- Lightning snapper: This little fish is built like a tank, with all the similar features that most snappers possess, they have a surprisingly light coloration to them. As well as a thicker stronger tail, to help darting, chasing, and running into things it would like to eat. These are annoying little things to bring in on fishing line. They were made to be hardy and sturdy, and most importantly. They were built for speed and they are not afraid to use it.
- Maned catfish: Named such, because unlike most other types of catfish, that only have 1 pairs of whiskers. These guys can have up to 7 pairs of whiskers, some of which are actually on the back of their head. It is unknown why they have so many whiskers, but everyone can agree that they definitely look like they have some strange kind of Mane.
- Puddle skippers: Similar to Mudskippers, only they can’t be out of the water as long and they seemed to struggle with using their front flippers as a means to drag itself forward. It seems to rely more on a surprisingly strong tail and pinpoint accuracy to get them from one small body of water to another. Most that have been found, live in temporary bodies of water. So is theorized that they may hibernate when there are no more puddles left.
- Rainbowfish/prism fish: in dark places this will look like one of the palest, plainest, and sometimes sick fishing look you can find. When the light hits them though, each scale seems to light up and brings out beautiful colors. That hide within this fish, Then it is said that when these fish jumps out of the water and the light hits their scales just right. That rainbows will actually seem to be coming out of their bodies. Almost as if each scale acts as a tiny prism.
- Sandy dwarf: these stubby little guys, are in a way so ugly they are kinda cute. They have massive bodies and heads, but tiny little fins that barely seem able to take them off the bottom of the seafloor. Thankfully, they seem perfectly fine with this and like to actually stay hidden under the sand whenever they can.
- Spiny finned minnow: These minnows don’t look much different from the normal tiny fish that make most minnows. The only difference, is a number of fish that try to eat this tiny morsel are in are a bad surprise, because they have spines similar to that of a pinfish. Making them not only very difficult to eat, but also quite painful at time.
- Smokey mouthed bass: these large Bass are tend to either be a kind brown color or just generally dark in color. However what usually isn’t dark on them, are their mouths’ they are typically a dull/pale gray color. With the inside of their mouth tending to be even lighter. Making it look like they may have accidently or somehow managed to swallow and eat smoke. There are several legends regarding this species having tried to eat fire as a way to take the gift away from those that walked on land.
- Star-spotted dwarf gulper: These are smaller, prettier versions of their much more intimidating cousins. Like most gulpers, they take in food and capture their prey, just by opening their mouth. The vacuum dragging their prey into their mouth. They are a pretty Grey-Blue color with seemingly random iridescent scales, that are said to remind some of an night sky just before dawn.
- Storm trout: these creatures, when in large numbers, and give off the feeling that the feeling of a storm is going on within their waters. This is due to their almost random patterning of dark grey-black, mixed with silvery yellow( debate the yellow.) Surprisingly though, this isn’t actually how they got their name though. They love waters that are fast, churning, and generally just something else that that others would avoid in general. They can be seen most often in any storm that seems to torment the water, they will be jumping and enjoying the churning water.
Spoiler: RPAprilSpoiler: word DecathlonSpoiler: 100 word dash - cloud watching weather“How’s the weather?” a voice came from behind me. Rolling over, I saw the old man that everyone knew, but no one did. Blinking, I didn’t even realize that he could speak. When he chuckled and repeated the question, “How’s the weather?” Jumping a little, I realized I had been staring. “oh, uh, its’ really nice.” I stated almost dumbly, feeling the soft grass under my arms. He chuckled again, “cloud watching?” He asked and all I could do was nod. He leaned heavily one his cane, before struggling to try and sit down.
Hurriedly, I got up and helped him down onto the grass. He sighed and looked up, “It really is such a nice day. To just sit and relax, when I was younger. I used to always watch the clouds,” he said and I nodded again, smilingly slightly.Spoiler: Writing marathon
Spoiler: Day 1 - Please have mercy on me!I was in the white room again, I didn't like the white room. Nothing good ever happened whenever I was brought in here. The Others acted normal, they always did, even trying to calm me when they realized that I was getting anxious, but nothing they said would make me feel better. This room was too clean, it smelled funny, the Others always wore those jackets while in here. Simply put there was nothing good about this place.
So while they went off to do whatever they wanted to do, I sat there shivering and panicking. I already knew that there was no way out, many had tried. There was no end to this place no place to go and those that did try, disappeared for a long time and came back different. If they came back at all.
When the Others came back, they had one of the rolling trays with them. I hated the trays as much as I hated the white room, because it signaled the start of everything and all I could think, every time I saw that tray was. Please show me some mercy. Silent prays that were never answered, but I had lost my voice long ago. All I could do was silently beg that someone will be able to show some mercy. So continuing to pray I did, even as it felt like someone started a fire in my bodySpoiler: Day 2 And I'm free fallingIt had just been one of those days. Then again, it has felt like one of those days, ever since my parents were died... well killed, but still. Now two guys were after me and one of the few things actually keeping me alive. So I did the only rational thing, I ran, but that started half an hour ago and running fast as you can full speed in a forest for more than a few minutes was exhausting and a I could hear them starting to catch up.
Thats' when the forest suddenly disappeared and then I was free falling. I don't know where the ledge was, but I clearly stepped over it and could hear the shouting above me. Least I know they couldn't reach me and thanks to a friend wouldn't die either.
After a few seconds of free falling, I spread a large pair of dark tipped wings. Mentally thinking the friend that gave me them and glided far from the guys chasing me as I could. Hoping I wouldn't fall, in a way that wouldn't be saved just by having a pair of wings, anytime soon.Spoiler: day 3 But one soul lies anxious, wide awakeNumber 329, it was always number 329. It was 2 in the morning and Flins' job was just to keep an eye on everyone. There were some that got restless during the night, but no matter what they did. Number 329 never slept, Flin had asked if that one slept during the day and if they could fix it. They didn't seem to realize that number 329 didn't sleep, they just assumed that he was an earlier riser. Since that one wasn't out of the bed. It never got out of bed when it wasn't supposed to be in it, but they couldn't get it to sleep.
Flin wasn't sure why, but they let him have a number 329, not only have his own screen, but put it on somethin Flin could carry around in case it decided to do something. Flin wasn't too worried about number 329 though, the poor thing just looked so scared. He didn't know if it was afraid of the dark or what it was, but far as he could tell it was just too anxious to sleep. Leaving it wide awake during the night and it wasn't really like he had any card to go in there either.
Apparently the person before him, had opened every cell and tried to let everyone go. Not that Flin could really blame the person. But, his job was litterally just to watch everyone during the graveyard shift and let them know of anything unusual or call them encase of emergency. There was never any problems though, there was only ever number 329. The anxious sleepless soul.
