Deep-seeded fears of inadequacy
fester within, ready to germinate
and tear their way to the surface,
putting on display for the world
my darkest insecurities.

Wow, thanks Merry! I'm so flattered and honored to be featured.

I know this next poem doesn't seem like I'm happy, but for the moment I am.
I'll most likely come back to this one for revisions and additions later, but didn't want to forget the basic concept of it.

I can be brave,
when you're not around.

I choose what to save
and what isn't worth it
I know what I want
and that I deserve it,

until you come back around.

My fears all rush back,
my guard is thrown up
to withstand your attack,
my dreams all corrupt.

Just getting by is somehow enough
when you come back around.

New love is a balloon,
weightless and filled with joy,
so strong it lifts your feet off the ground.

But over time, words and actions cling to it
making it heavier and heavier
until it plummets to the Earth
and must be dragged, like an anchor.

Eventually, this burden becomes too much to bear
and you must choose
either to let it go
or remain tethered in place forever.
