The Twelve Gods
Twelve gods, twelve who served the Firstborn. Twelve who stood loyally for the light of peace and good. The great Twelve who stood against the treacherous and traitorous ambitions of the Warrior. The ones who faced their former comrades in the War-in-the-Heavens. Now served as protectors of Ochlion, each of them became gods in the eyes of the mortals who resided upon the world. Each had their own purpose but ultimately, they strive for peace and to prevent total annihilation.
The first of the many who stood beside the First God, Alvarind was the god of war, protection and strength. Valerios was his name. Also known to mortals as Qhar or Rhuvau’ur, Valerios is the fierce protector of Ochlion who stands at the edge of the world between the Abyss and the mortal realm. Behind him was a thousand armies numbered in the millions, who kept a vigilant watch for centuries and preventing an all out war between the shadows of the dark and against the creatures created by the light in the dawn of days. His brother was Etherios, the Dark God of Chaos who stood with the Warrior also known as Urgond, the brother of Alvarind in the War-in-the-Heavens. Valerios himself was considered as the leader of the armies of Heaven (not to be confused with Sanctuary) and actively participating in an never-ending perpetual war against the forces of darkness to keep them at bay. According to the legends, Valerios gave the Son of the Dragon a choice – either to join the Twelve and became a part of the Pantheon or to remain human with the gift of a very long lifespan. However, no one knew the decision that the Son had made that day and it remains a mystery to this day. Valerios is often depicted as a young man with muscular body, possessing a pale skin with flashy blue eyes that carries the color of the ocean and a coat of fiery hair. He was also known as the creator of the angels who were awakened after the end of the War-in-the-Heavens as well as the leader of the Twelve.
Next was Nuranor, the Heir of the Seas, the Protector of the Deep. He was the son of the deceased god, Urka’ath who was killed in the early years of the Age of Defiance. Following his death, he rose to become the successor and participated in the Great Purges against the heretical forces of the Crimson Star. He and his siblings protected the seas from the threats that lies within – dangerous monsters and beasts which are prophesied to awaken once again in a coming age where “the world burns.” Nuranor fought against Belendôr, the God of the Raging Storms and slew him during the War-in-the-Heavens. Often depicted as a young man with jet-black hair that flows down his back like a stream of water, riding across the seas with his chariot of sea dragons and a sword made of dark blue metal with ripples seen upon its blade. His eyes were yellow that would glitter underneath the sun like a pair of gold coins and wore a silver circlet around his head, carrying a green gem.
Detheréas or simply spelt as Dethereas is the god of the sun, harvest, fertility and the patron god of fathers. Thought to be the youngest among the Twelve, Detheréas is a capable god known to have watched over the mortal realm, circling across Ochlion upon his chariot of white horses with blazing fire as their manes as their eyes flicker like flames. According to the religious, the famous Red Comet is actually Detheréas venturing in the skies. He was married to Myssandra, goddess of the night, knowledge, beauty, love and the patron god of mothers who is also one of the Twelve. Together, they watched upon the world with vigilant eyes. Detheréas is often described in sculptures as a man with a coat of orange beard and hair, eyes of green like the gems of old who usually rode on his chariot. Also known to have wielded a sword that blazes like the sun and dons a gold armor probably forged by Vesür, one of the lesser gods. Myssandra’s appearance is a fair, young lady with jet black hair and wore a beautiful dress that seemed to glitter in the light as if it was made of sparkling gems and had violet eyes. In the dawn of the ages, both Detheréas and Myssandra created the sun and the moon respectively with the goddess scattering the many stars across the skies.
The Noble Smith, the God of Iron and Steel were just a few of his titles gained during his lifetime. Known to many as Hélcama’ar, the god of smiths and flames. Hélcama’ar was the second oldest deity created by Urgond and Alvarind before the dawn of Ochlion. He had a vast knowledge of the world, creating great weapons and armors that hold such incredible power. Some even said that Hélcama’ar taught the ancient people of the fallen kingdom Andrûcil the art of making powerful and stronger weapons, which lead to the creation of Andrûcilian Steel that are extremely rare after its downfall. Often described as a man with a copper skin, a coat of silver beard and hair with eyes that glow like ember. His creation were the mysterious Forgers which are originally created to aid Hélcama’ar in the early centuries before Alvarind allowed them to reside on Ochlion alongside the other races. Thought their numbers dwindle after the First Great War and lived on the Shattered Peak, Hélcama’ar often watched his creation and observe them thrived.
Eladris was the god of the forests and the hunt. The patron god of hunters and archers, Eldaris is known to be the greatest of all in terms of archery and hunting down beasts that are deemed too dangerous for mortals to handle. Typically wielding a black and silver bow with a quiver with never ending arrows. Often depicted as having a pet wolf named Méandar, he aids the hunters of the world in their quest and some legends have stated that sometimes Eladris himself would grant a person a specially forged bow that possesses the same characteristics as his own. He is often described in paintings as wearing a wolf pelt with a coat of beard that is either black or dark brown and a pair of hazel eyes. He is married to Éarenthil, the goddess of the beasts who created the many animals of Ochlion. Together, they kept a vigilant watch upon the world for any beasts who prowl across the lands and terrorized innocents. Éarenthil herself had a golden coat of hair tied to a braid and her eyes are as bright as a glowing sapphire. Both of them created the Eldu’un, a race of horned human-like beings that possesses a natural affinity to magic and a hunting skill unparalleled to any other races of the world.
The raging thunder, weathers and lightning were of the god named Axinius, the god of lightning and rage. He was ranked as one of the strongest gods of the Twelve and even Urgond is afraid to face him as the weather cannot be tamed because of its unpredictable nature. Despite being the embodiment of anger itself, Axinius is also known to be a caring, benevolent and the noblest of them all as he aided the Firstborn in creating the humans. In several religions, he is referred as Zeus or Maximus, usually in the regions of Moiairon. His strength can only be rivalled by Valerios who is also his closest friend during the War-in-the-Heavens as he slew Nemésar, the crippled god who embodies tyranny and oppression. According to the lost legends, Axinius conjured a spear of pure lightning and hurled across the battlefield, it is said that when it struck Nemésar’s chest, it blew apart the deity’s body. Typically described in sculptures as a large man of muscular proportions with a silver hair and a circlet around his head. His eyes were white, as bright as lightning itself. He also has a pair of iron gauntlets while other suggested that his arms are made of iron.
Arethes is the god of death and judgement who watches over the spiritual realm known as the Halls of Novogarde or the Hall of Champions in Ma’arnic religion. He was the chief god of the afterlife and Novogarde is a place mainly for those who died with honor and for a noble cause. Thus, many has suspected that the souls of many great champions were brought to the Halls to be prepared for “a war that would decide the fate of the world itself.” He actively took part during the War-in-the-Heavens, leading his every growing army of warriors against the forces of the Twin Gods known Orâdris and Nydra, the two gods of the beasts and shadows who created the Blightbeasts to be a part of their army. Yet, Arethes led his own legions of the dead champions and fought them. One his greatest victories is at the Battle Under The Mountain where Arethes’ army managed to defeat the much larger forces of the Twin Gods in a pitched battle, using hundreds of spearmen to their greatest advantage. He even slew Orâdris and sent Nydra to the Abyss. He was betrothed to Maryn, the goddess of justice and wisdom who aided her husband quite often in the watching of the dead, especially in the Halls of Novogarde. Arethes is often described as a young man with an average build, with a skin that is almost as pale as ash and sharp features without facial hair. His eyes were grey or silver as he was often depicted in poems and paintings. Arethes would occasionally take the form of a humanoid wolf to watch over the dead. In his hand is a golden staff with the head of a wolf with a pair of sapphires for its eyes which would glow in the presence of evil. In paintings and sculptures, Maryn is seen as a young beautiful woman with four wings at her back and a coat of jet black hair, long and as soft as silk. She was quite muscular and wields a flaming sword, given to her by Detheréas as a wedding gift.
Hóreus and Aúren were the two deities of the sky, wind and peace. Hóreus is the protector of the skies, often depicted as a tanned skin muscular man, wielding a golden spear and a falcon named Hórun as his pet. It is said that he could hurl the spear from half a world away that would shatter mountains. His wife, Aúren is the goddess of the wind and peace, watching over the people alongside Maryn and judged the souls of the departed to permit entry to the Halls of Novogarde. She was often described as a fair lady, her beauty can only be matched by Myssandra with her ashen eyes that seemed to glitter like a pair of crystals. Her coat of sun streaked hair and her weapon is usually a sword or a spear, complemented with the use of a rounded shield.
The Minor Gods of Ochlion
Lesser gods, yet they possessed a power that is equal to that of the great Twelve. Many were their children, many were once humans who were granted the decision to ascend into the Heavens to sit alongside the many who protected the mortals. They were uncountable, worshipped by many of those who resided upon Ochlion.
Mother Moiaira is worshipped by the first people of Moiairon as their patron goddess. She was the deity of the rivers, mountains and of the forests, the daughter to Eladris and Éarenthil. She protects the first humans on Ochlion by staying on the continent, providing shelter and protection, guiding the many human tribes to prosper.
The Great Stallion or simply Vha’aren is usually worshipped by the horselords in the Scorching Plains. Often depicted as a rider who rides upon a white stallion, armed with a great sword and clad in the strongest armor known to the gods.
Vesür is a lesser god, the son of Helcama’ar and is also the creator of the Forgers. He and his father were the smiths of the great weapons wielded by the gods.
Asgathur was a patron god of the Giants.
