“Well now, ain’t that a pretty coat you got on…”
The nobleman had a shocked look on him when Bon stepped out from behind a tree. He towered over the stout portly fellow and stepped closer to him. “Ah, gold buttons on it too, and is that sable fur on your collar?” Bon said with a bemused chuckle as he stepped closer and raised a finger to prod the city noble’s coat. “By the Mother, friend, that really is a good coat. Perfect for a nightly walk in the park, ain’t it…?”
“B-back off you pleb!” Cried the nobleman defiantly but shakily as he stepped back. “I will call for the guar-”
“Must have cost you quite the pretty cron for it, hm?” Bon interrupted the man, continuing on his little spiel of the other man’s well made coat. “It’s about my size… Ain’t it….?”
Suddenly, the nobleman step took a stance and reached into his coat.
“Whoa now, friend. What are yo-”
He pulled out a pistol. Bon did not count on that.
“Okay… I see where this is going,” He said as he stepped back as well, hands raised. “Now there friend, no need to have that drake spitter out.” He say more, but the punctuated sound of the man thumbing back the hammer of his gun made him shut up.
“You will stay where you are, you rogue. I am going to call the guards and have you put away for wasting my time!”
Bon interjected, “Now that can’t happen, Moussier. See, I’ll be late for….” He made a face like he just spotted something overwhelming stupid. “Your gun isn’t loaded.”
“What? Absurd! My valet loaded this personally!”
“Well didn’t do a good job of it, look for yourself.”
Normally, no one would believe him in this circumstance, but now the noble seemed to hesitantly point the pistol away from him and check it. That gullibility was his window of opportunity. A hand darted for the gun and another wound back and formed a fist. He grabbed the gun by the barrels and forced it to point up, that made the noble panic and squeeze trigger, the quiet ambiance of the dark park disrupted by the crack of gunfire. Bon’s free fist slammed into the noble’s cheek, flooring the richer man. He seemed to stopping moving once his face collided with the cobblestone path.
“Crone’s tits. I hate it when they fight back….”
Sounds of running and shouting came from further down the cobblestone path, making Bon curse his own luck. No time to take the coat, he realized, but he had the man’s pistol still in his grip.
“Thanks for the gun, good sir…”
With that, Bon fled the scene.
