    Default How to Spot Spam

This will be a quick guide on how to know what is and isn't spam. Sometimes we will get posts that are not from members of this website and are instead bots spreading spam. We don't have a spambot all that often, but when we do, you may want to know how to spot one. So here's some tips on how to spot one!

    1. This is an English speaking language. If the post is not in English, it may be spam. If it's filled with symbols or a language that you don't recognize, it's most likely spam. If it has a decent taste, it could be ham, but it could still be spam, so don't eat it.

    2. The user made an account within the last day or two. Not all newbies are secretly evil bots attempting to take over RPA. In fact, most aren't. If this new user has only made a few posts and none are in the intro section, then they might be spam.

    3. If they have made multiple posts it multiple sections, they may be spam. If all of their posts are closely related or exactly the same, they are most likely spam.

    4. Check the sections they are posting to. If the text doesn't fit what the section is about, or they are posting in a section they shouldn't, then they are likely spam. For example, a newbie posting in the awards or roleplay of the week section, is likely spam.

    5. The title of the posts can also be a dead giveaway. If it doesn't seem logical, is a combination of symbols and numbers, or references a link it's likely spam.

    6. Sometimes you'll be able to hover over a link or drag and release without linking, to be able to see exactly where it goes. Not every device you view RPA on may be able to do this, so be aware of that before you try so you don't accidentally click. It could be dangerous to your computer or phone. In some cases they'll just list a website and there won't be any links. It's still spam.

    7. If they are chanting "ALL HAIL SPAMURAI." then they are most definitely spam. (This one is a joke)

    8. If you see spam or are unsure you can hit the little report button on the post or message a mod (a member with a green, blue, or purple colored username.) If you happen to be wrong, the mods will check it out, and decide themselves.

Now I know most of our regulars know this already, and that it doesn't happen too often, and a lot of this is common sense, but I know we get some younger or more trusting members, and I'm looking out for the youthful Omac's in the world.
