WE WERE NEVER ALONE

In year 2479 Humanity for first time aquired to leave their own solar system and started the Age of Space colonisation. During the next fifty years 15 new colonies were were built in and outside of our Solar system. Inside our Solar system there were colonies on Moon, Mars, Titan, Uranus and even Pluto with at least one Million People living and working on them.
The biggest colonies outside werein the Epsilon Eridani-System, about 10 Lightyears from earth with over 5 million people living there. The rest of the colonies were schattered all over the Milky Way.
During the time of colonisation, 28 planets and systems with living creatures were discovered. Most of them were friendly and welcomed the space trvellers warmly into their systems. And so the interplanetary Trading routes were began to estabilize. Of course there were hostile or primitive species who tried to get rid of the still so young species of Humans.
The most strongest of these were the "Ronans", an almost ancient species with control of over 200 Planets and they always conquered more. The Ronans saw the Humans as a threat for their Empire and in year 2583, without a declaration of war, the colonies in Epsilon Eridani-Systems were attacked by the Ronan fleet. In only few months, all colonies in the System, with more than 8 Million people living there at that time was annihilated and seized by the Ronans...

We now live year 2617. The human race has almost been rotten to extinction by the Ronans. All human colonies outside the Solar systems have been annihilated during these years or the contact has been lost.
From the 45 Billion humans who had lived before the war started, only 8 Millions are still known to live.
The Ronan Empire has already seized the colonies of Pluto and Uranus, Titan is under attack and only with help of interplanetary Missiles it has been possible to repel the Ronans from attacking the Mars.
It is also known that the Ronans have attacked the allyies of the Humans, the Argathean Federation in a solar system 20 light years from earth. Until now their defences have been able to hold down the invasion, but for how long?
Even the strongest allies of the Humans are under attack, the Esprans.
Why the sudden attack of the Ronan Empire?
What is their Goal?
Will the Human race be destroyed?

Plot:

The Ronans have declared the war almost against everybody, choose your side and fight for what you feel right. Do you defend the Humans living on Earth, or do you want to destroy them? Or maybe you wish to defend the Home planet of the Argatheans? There will also be few special races and abilities from humanitys mythology and fantasy so be prepared to take off...

Races:

Spoiler: Humans 

Humans are a young race. they have "lived" only for about 5000 years, or this is how all other races see it.
Their Planet, Earth is located in the norther part of the Milky Way and is also pretty young.
Humans are avarage creatures. They are not outstanding strong, fast or intelligent. The have (almost) never special powers and they die easily. Only remarkable is their Will to survive, research, understand and fight. In only 5450 years they aquired the knowledge for which most species would need 100.000 years, and in only 450 years the could not only travel with light speed, but also survive in the dark and cold space.
They are an agressive race, always fighting among their own lines of other races whose planets they want.
Humans use mostly firearms to fight, but someones of them also use close range weapons. The human war machines are cheap, small and easy to use and they usually use so primitive technology that most of the advanced defences of other races don't work against them.

Spoiler: Ronans 

The ancient race of Ronans has already excisted 20 Million years.
They are a humanoid creatures, living about 200 years, looking much like humans, but the colours are different. Their hair has usually an unnatural colour (green, red, blue...) as well as their eyes. Their skin is light grey and their "blood" is purple-black. The best characteristic to distinquish a Ronan from other humanoid creatures are still their limbs. Humans have only two legs and two arms, but for a Ronan, that would be a malformation. They have always a different number of limbs. Someone has three legs and four arms, the other has two arms growing from the hips, and the third has fingers growing from fingers (5 fingers per hand and five fingers in each fingers = 60 fingers).
Their technology is much more advanced than that of the humans and throught this they for excample use large battle ships, combat suits and droids in battle. Their footsoldiers, called "Peasants" use normally firearms and as their secondary weapon a cloce-range weapon. or Vica versa.
The Ronans are looking for their ancient Archenemies, the Valkyries, who are supposed to have died out millions of years ago.

Spoiler: Argatheans 

Argatheans are a humanoid race, living about 400 years. They don't know uch things as "Science" or "Technology" (Except as a delicious food), but their born abilities to control different elements help them to survive.
The species of the Argatheans has lived for about 5 Million years and only inside their own Solar system, made of three planets and two suns.
The Argatheans are big creatures, always over 8" tall and with over 400lbs weight. Their skin is brown, from copper to chocolate or terracotta as well as sandstone colour. They have yellow, golden or bronze coloured bright eyes and always a black hair.
The Argathean warriors, called "Steyx's" use their abilities, such as fire control, water control, wind control, metal control, light control, shadow control, wood control... in combat. Argatheans are a peaceful race with no intentions of fighting, but because of the Ronan attack they had to call the Steyx's to arms and defend themselves.

Spoiler: Esprans 

Esprans are a race of Energy beings made of pure energy which has no solid lifetime.
They are used to take a form of creatures in Earth mythology that can easily be explained with a simple fact that Esprans have often visited earth and the earth mythology actually tells mostly about aliens. In their true form Esprans are a shining, green columns of pure energy and plasma.
The technology of the Esprans is even more advanced than that of the Ronans and they are able to use/create e.g. worm holes for transport, cold fusion to produce energy as their food or the so-called "Nano-Tech-Chemical" Weapons (Transportable war machines like the light racer in film "Tron-Legacy").
The esprans are allies of the Humans even thought the "Council of the Elders" usually don't help them. Thought there are many young, rebellious Esprans helping the Humans in the battle against the Ronans.

Spoiler: Wampyreons 

An ancient race from the darkest corner of the Milky Way. Their planet has no day because there is a tight cloud of dust swirling around it, but it releases warmth to the planet, allowing creatures to live, creatures that doesn't need light.
Wampyreons are Beast-like creatures without eyes or nose but with huge ears and a mouth filled with razor sharp fangs.
Usually living quietly on their own, solitaire planet, Wampyreons sometimes sent their infants to visit other planets, infecting the inhabitants with the Wampyreon-Virus. On the Earth the persons infected with the virus are called vampires because of the sounds they make (they crowl like "Vammmmmmmm..." and while they eat can a quit "pire...pire" to be heard)
The infected start to mutate and turn into Wampyreons after few weeks from the bite, but some of the infected noticed that the infection can be stopped by drinking blood, leaving them only the abilities that Wampyreons have like speed, strenght, better senses, control over blood or shadows... Even thought humans thought Wampyreons are undeadly, they die usually after 250 years.

Spoiler: The Valkyries 

The legendary Warrior race. They ruked over the Milky Way about 6 Million years ago. humanoid creatures with mystical powers and abilities. Due of some unknown reason, the valkyries disappeared 4,5 Million years ago after fighting against the Ronans for 100.000 years. Nobody knows what happened to them, and not many documents or ruins tell about their excistent, but their DNA has lived until this day. different species (except the Ronans) around the Milky Way have inheritated the DNA and the powers of the Valkyriens, giving them different abilities and powers.
The capital city of the Valkyriens, "Asgard" that is said to be the center of the Milky way, is guarded by three legendary, ancient space ships called "Odin", "Thor" and "Loki". Even alone, these shios could take it on with every ship in the whole galaxy and win.
The Valkyriens have created the mythology of the Wikings which prowes that they haven't disappeared completely.

Spoiler: President Hamson 

President of the United nations, and the highest leader of the Humanity. He has been assgned to this duty for 7 years now. He is a social man who enjoys gambling, travelling and parties. He is in his 60ths. is about 5"7' tall, weights round 185lbs andhas a short grey hair.He wears expensive suits and smokes cigarres. He is a born citizen of the United tates, but he now lives on a space station over the Arktis. Even throught he is the highest leader, all decisions must be approwed by the UN-Parlament, leaving him only a bit power.
Hamson is a strong-minded man who defends his people until the end. Even thought his efferots to get help from the Esprans have been futile till now, he isn't giving up.

Spoiler: Empress Obidei the DXXIII 

Empress Obidei is the 24.789 Empress of the Ronan Empire. She is a fierce personality with flaming red hair, four legs and six arms. She is 6" tall and has deep greeen eyes. She usually wears a pitch black gown with red ribbons. She carries the royal treasure with her all the time, the "Black Eye" is a Gemstone of unknown origin and has always been the symbol of the Empress. She also carries her long-hilted battle axe with her which is so heavy that she must swing it with at lest four arms to use it.
She looks like a teenager, but is actally already 87 years old. She has 14 children like the law says and has been ruling as the Empress for 31 years.
She is wery quick-tempered and stubborn, throwing thigs at her generals and driving them out of the throne room.
But she also can be shy, gentle and even flirty if she meets someone she likes (Often flees from the capital).

Spoiler: Federation Leader Puragoti 

Puragoti has the highest position in the Argathean federation. he is a peace loving hippie (got inspired on a trip to earth) who hates war. He is a big man, even for a Argathean with height of 12" and 450"lbs. He has a long, black hair and yellow eyes. His skin is dark brown and he is quiet muscular.
He has trained his powers to fire deadly beams and even teleport himself.
He is already 385 years old and wery wise.

Spoiler: The Council of The Eldest 

The council is a collective of 10 esprans. They are all over 500.000 years old and everytime someone else arrives this age, he/she will be added to the council.
They are all trying to keep the rae of Esprans alive, everyone on their own way, someone wishes to attack, others want to wait and observe.
The council is normally in the pure form of Esprans, but if needed, they turn into a huge ten-headed dragon.
The council has the absolute power in the Espran society and nobody would even think making decisions without them.

Spoiler: Queen Wiziella 

Wiziella is the Queen of the Wampyreons. She is, in difference to other Wampyreons, black. She is also more humanoid than her beast-like spawn.
She has no eyes, but a nose and her mouth is much smaller, like a humans. She walks on her feets and dresses in a blood-red robe that covers her body.
She is a calm and caring ruler, letting her spawn travel in the galaxy and increase their numbers.
She is wery interested in humans who have managed to surpass the Wampyreon-Virus.
She is only 60 years old and the 47.329 Queen of the Wampyreons.

Spoiler: General Harrison 

General Harrison commands the earth forces on Titan, Jupiters biggest moon which is under direct attack of the Ronans.
Harrison is 47 years old citizen of th United Kingdoms and has been in duty for 27 years. Harrison is 6"1' tall, he has a black, short hair with few gray strain and friendly face.
He wears the usual UN Space Marine uniform with only except of the symbols of a general. He carries a light Ion-Pistol and a communicator as his equipment.
Harrison is a tactican, puttign the evacuation of the civilians on the first position. He uses mostl Guerilla tactics in order to minimize own casualities.
Throught the efforts of him, the casualities on Titan during the last four months of siege have been ONLY 5000 Marines and 240 civilians.

Spoiler: General Saphira Opisan 

Saphira Opisan is one of the 5 Imperial generals and the commanding officer attacking Titan. She is 89 years old female Ronan with sapphire blue hair and eyes. She has four arms, all tarting from the shouders. General Opisan is 5"7' tall and wears a custom-made combat suit in black and blue. She carries four plasma swords on her hips and two heave laser guns on her back.
Opisan is a quick-tempered and fierce general, preferring the tactics of "Blitzkrieg" as well as ambushes and suprie attacks, but if these methodes don't work, she uses normal siege tactics and she is capable of cutting off a whole planet with only 5 ships.
Opisan is also the commander of one of the "Five herolds", the strongest battle ships in the whole Ronan Empire. Her ship, "Tulip", is the most advanced stealth-capability battle shi in whole galaxy. It is undetectable as long as nobody flies directly against it. It is also armed with Fusion cannons for unbelivable fire power.

Name: Degimlef son of Asirak
Age: 130
Gender: Male
Race: Ronan
Powers: None

Appearance: Degmilef is 6'5" tall, and heavy-set for a naval officer. He has four arms with ten fingers on the end of each, arranged in a symmetrical pattern. His hair is midnight blue on most of his head, but growing thin and turning orange towards the back, so it almost looks like he has a sideways mohawk. He also has a third eye above his right eye, but a scar holds it closed.

Equipment: Degmilef is captain of the Cathnuca XXI, a pulsar-class battleship, and he commands a nine-ship scouting lance consisting of one battleship, three light loadout cruisers, one Giant-class refinery ship, and four aerospace jumpships.

Personality: Reserved, cynical. He's shrewd and quite a risky decision maker in combat, but in peace time he's almost half-asleep. He's very sure of himself and his decisions as captain, and he doesn't take well to criticism, unless it's coming from his first mate.

History: Degmilef is a man who has served as captain of the Cathnuca XXI for more years than many have been alive (and that's saying something for a Ronan). His entire existance has been scouting missions, short stations on leave, and (few and far between) fighting. His father was a naval officer, and so was the father before him. His mother served as navigation officer on a ship for most of her life, and his grandmother was a comm officer. His 12 sisters and brothers all serve on ships. In fact, if the combat freighter Akatreich XVI hadn't been forced to dock and refuel in the Aldebaran system that faithful day, he would have been born on a ship.

Of all the things wrong with his life Degmilef really regrets that last point, because no matter how many medals he earns, whenever family reunions come around he'll always be "station boy".

Degmilef fights because he has to, and because it's all he's ever known. Like most Ronans he doesn't really believe in any sort of change (especially one as radical as an end to the war!), only gradual decline. There isn't much philosophy in Degmilef's balding head, but what's there reads something like this: the Ronan empire was stable before the aliens started gaining sentience, and so to keep it stable, their influence should be removed. Of course the propaganda distributes essentially same message, but Degmilef is content in the (probably false) knowledge that he thought of it before they said it on Approved Empire News.

You ken what? There's something about this that I like. Never written a fleet-based story before. Plus I'm recognising all sorts of interesting influences - Mass Effect, SG-1, Halo...

I have an idea for one of the five Ronan generals, the one responsible for attacking Mars, though I was wondering if you could give me a bit more info. Mostly it's about the physical "rules" of the universe.

Firstly, you said humans discovered how to go at "light speed" - is this the speed limit for the universe? Makes reasonable sense, if you can take a planet in a few months, but a war spanning 20 light years takes decades.

Secondly, how does space combat work in this universe, and what sort of weapons are employed? Based on your intro I was going to run with the idea that Ronan ships have shields and use energy weapons while human ones use missiles / kinetics, so the Ronan vastly out-range the humans, but if the humans get close then the Ronan ray-shields don't work. What do you think?

And finally, is the Ronan random limbs thing the result of deliberate engineering or just a ridiculously unstable gene pool? Tailors must be very well-paid in the Empire :P I'm assuming that there's some sort of "most common" or "standardised" limb configuration for common machines like cars, planes and battlesuits? Otherwise the logistics of getting every person customised gear would be a nightmare...

1. Question: Well, light speed is the highest speed the humans have aquired, but there are even better techonlogies such as warping that the Esprans use as well as the teleportation of the Argatheans. The Ronans use a similiar technology, but it is only usable for longer distances.

2. Question: Yes, about like that, the humans have quiet primal energy weapons and their most weaponary still bases on kinetic force. The ronans and the Esprans have far evolved particle and energy technologies, and they are truly not always acting against human weaponary.

3. Question: unstable gene pool, yes. And the standards are for two arms and two legs because there are no Ronans with only 1 leg or arm (extremely rare).

And finally, yes, you can make one of the generals.
